IMPROVING YOUR PROPERTY? GET A SHED
A year long study by local search company Thomson Local has shown the extent to which the nation is choosing to improve their existing households, rather than purchasing a new property, and it seems the humble garden shed is viewed as key to adding value.
The study looked at searches for local businesses on ThomsonLocal.com related to building and home improvement. The results showed the garden and the bathroom are the clear favourite areas to enhance.
In the garden, searches for Garden Design increased by 182% whilst Garden Centres and Nurseries saw a 159% jump.
But the surprise result was the massive 231% increase in searches for Garden Sheds.
In the bathroom, re-tiling is the order of the day with a 194% increase in searches for Tile Stockists. Bathroom Equipment and Fittings rose by 69% whilst Bathroom Planners and Furnishers saw a 65% increase in searches for their services.”
Gary Brown, Product and Marketing Director, Thomson Local says: “The increase in demand for home improvement services in a relatively short space of time is a simple reflection of the fact that less people are moving house due to the current economic uncertainty; instead they are improving the one they have. That said, I would not have expected the garden shed to be a high growth area”
He continued: “Whilst people are not afraid of getting their hands dirty, the study shows that the Great British public still prefer to call in the professionals to undertake the work. Obviously we cannot account for those people that try to do-it-themselves, and then need to call in an expert afterwards.”
