Press Release- Clifton Nurseries

EXHIBITION BY FRENCH SCULPTOR NATHALIE DECOSTER

As the first ever public installation of work by French sculptor Nathalie Decoster in the UK, Clifton Nurseries will host a selection of her work within the surroundings of London’s oldest garden centre and canal-side garden at Little Venice. The exhibition will be launched at Clifton Nurseries, with a presentation by Nathalie Decoster, on Wednesday, 10th September from 6.30-8.30pm and will be on display from September 2008 for six months. Admission is free.

Nathalie Decoster is one of the art scene’s most famous figures in her native France and her work has earned world-wide renown. She creates huge, outdoor sculptures in bronze, aluminum and various other materials such as wood shavings and glass cloches. Her work brings form to some of life’s complex subjects in her reflections of the cycle of life and death, of nature and the passing of time. Decoster has been commissioned by clients all over the world. In her native Paris her monumental sculptures have been on exhibit in the Courtyard at the Crillon Hotel, Place de la Concorde, The Tuileries Gardens, Place Saint-Sulpice in Saint Germain des Pres and The Trocadero to name but a few..

Famous clients such as Alain Ducasse have exhibited her work and the make up specialist company Guerlain has twenty permanent sculptures on show in their buildings. Jewellery designer Arthus Bertrand collaborated with her to put on an exhibition and create a pendant for them. Other exhibitions or where you can view Nathalie’s work worldwide include The SaoPaulo Museum, Sao Paulo, The Caudalie Spa, Caudalie, The Grounds of Saint Geran, Mauritius and not to mention venues in Venice, Belgium and Miami, Florida. Her works entitled Air no.2, Times Working and Stylites are installed at the Grove Hotel in Hertfordshire, where they are a point of great interest and reflection, within the hotel grounds.

At Clifton Nurseries, the focus will be on themes such as Time Passing and how we deal with this differently, the relationship between human beings, the modern world and the fragility of us all. On display will be works including “Time Passing” (shown) in varying sizes, “D’Eole”, “Fragility”, “Fragility Cube”, “City Man”, “Tree of Life” and “View Points”, some measuring 1m 50 and others 4m.
