A revolutionary new diagnostic technology could end the misery of poor sleep caused by buying the wrong bed.
Bensons for Beds, Britain’s number 1 bed expert with 200 stores around the country, believe at least 50% of us may not be getting the best possible night’s sleep because we didn’t buy the right bed.
But the arrival of body profiling puts an end to all the guesswork by scientifically mapping the body and diagnosing the correct sleeping surface required for the person profiled. The computerised testing system is unique to the new Sleep to Live range of beds exclusively available in the UK through selected Bensons stores.
“It is amazing how many people suffer from back ache or disturbed sleep and haven’t put it down to the fact that it’s probably their bed!” says Simon Williams of Bensons.
“We know from industry statistics that people spend an average of just two minutes choosing a new bed so it’s not surprising so many people get it wrong. You wouldn’t buy a new suit without making sure it fitted in all the right places so why not do the same with a bed in which we spend about a third of every day?”
And Sleep to Live beds come as close to personal tailoring as a made to measure suit. The in-store profiling system involves answering a few simple questions on a touch screen and then lying on a special, computer-linked bed that maps the body’s contours. It is based on 18 statistical measurements and performs thousands of calculations to ensure users get the right Sleep to Live bed for their body type.
Says Simon: “We all know how important it is to get a good night’s sleep and how necessary a comfortable, properly supportive bed is to achieving that goal. However, making sure you buy the right bed can be a daunting task. The key question to ask yourself is “Do you really know how to choose the right bed for you?” It is surprising how many don’t know where to begin and there are many out there whose needs have changed as they have got older.”
“The right sleep surface should conform to the body – for example an overly firm mattress will cut off blood flow and put excess pressure on joints, causing discomfort and wakefulness. Sleep to Live’s diagnostic testing works out the user’s PRI (pressure relieving index).”
There are four Sleep to Live models to choose from (300 series, 500 series, 700 series and 900 series) – each available in four levels of PRI support. These are defined by way of colours – Tan, Green, Blue and Red with Tan being the softest and Red the firmest. But the real beauty of the beds is they can all be individually ordered to exactly suit the couples buying them. Thought to be the first ever vertically and seamlessly zoned beds, it means even couples with completely different needs can have a shared mattress that suits both their individual needs without any obvious central divide.
Says Simon: “It means the finished bed is a virtually bespoke product. Up until now, couples who wanted two vertically different types of firmness within the same double bed have really had to opt for zip-and-link models.”
Available in double, king and super king sizes, prices start at £1,000 for a standard size double 300 series; rise to £1500 for a 500 series; £2,000 for a 700 series and £2,500 for a 900 series. The Sleep to Live range is available in approximately 120 Bensons for Beds stores around the country.
