Hybrid tea roses were first raised in the late nineteenth
century and are distinguished be a high pointed centre Surrounded
by petals that curve back. Excellent for cutting, the colour
range is extensive, and some varieties are scented.
GROWING See Floribunda Roses. This group is particularly
Susceptible to damage by wind and rain. Prune autumn-planted
roses hard in the first spring to encourage strong shoots
from the base. Remove all damaged wood then Cut back to 3
buds (4 or S for floribundas). Spring-planted roses can be
pruned immediately. Once established, remove dead and damaged
wood early each spring and cut back all the previous season's
growth by two-thirds (by one-third for floribundas)

Hugh's', creamy yellow; `Valcncta', orange-bronze (prize-winning
scent).
